WILTON – Luanne Wrenn, illustrator of the new children’s picture book, “Opening Day,” will read aloud from her book and talk about her illustrations at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Wilton Free Public Library, 6 Goodspeed St.

It will be a “Hands On Pah!” program, interpreted in American Sign Language. For more information, call 645-4831.

“A day in the woods reinforces the important lessons Sam learned at his hunter safety class and inspires challenging questions in a young boy hunting for the first time. In the end, the story helps explain why some people hunt and others don’t, but how both still have a lot in common,” said Mark Gocke, Wyoming Game and Fish.

Friends and neighbors in Wilton posed as models for Wrenn’s paintings. “Opening Day,” published by Tilbury House, will be available for sale at the library.

Wrenn grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. In 1991 she moved to Wilton with her family. Wrenn loved drawing and painting and nature as a child, and she pursued these interests through college, with degrees in fine arts and science in education.

As an arts educator, Wrenn shares her love of the arts with children. She enjoys painting in oil and watercolor and is a commissioned portrait and mural artist, as well as an illustrator.
