Dog classes

AUBURN – Great Falls Dog Obedience Club is starting another six-week dog obedience class Wednesday, Sept. 26, in Auburn. The beginners’ class will be at 6:30 p.m. and advanced at 7:30. Dogs must be at least 3-1/2-months-old. To register and for more information, call club trainer Diane Harrington at 784-7578.

Employees to meet

LEWISTON – The National Active Retired Federal Employees Association will meet at 1130 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Ramada Inn.

The Silvertones will entertain after lunch. Plans for the meeting were made at the home of Vi Dumais. Attending were Sue Stetson, Mike and Flo Bohunicky, Doris Hamel and Joanne Morse.

Legion meeting

LISBON – Coombs Mountfort Post and Unit 158, American Legion, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the post home.

Dance class

PARIS – The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club’s second class on Wednesday, Sept. 26, is open to newcomers for one more time. Admission is free to those who come for the first time and to those who bring someone new.

A workshop will be held for experienced dancers from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Those who would like to try square dancing are welcome to arrive early to watch, then participate at 7:30.

Seniors fair

AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will hold a fall fair and flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Hasty Community Center, Pettengill Park. Concession stands are available.

There will be crafts, plants, baked goods, raffles and white elephant items. Plenty of parking is available.

Club speaker

AUBURN – Hope Weston of Schooner Estates will be the speaker when the Auburn Art Club meets at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, in the Tenants Harbor room of Schooner Estates.

Weston is the author of “Hope’s Two Lives,” which tells the story of her growing up in the Philippines and is full of details of pre-war life there. The book chronicles her observations of life and family, her travels and her ability to cope with a smile during times of adversity. She returned to Maine to attend college where she met her future husband.

Hostesses for the afternoon will be June Spear, Jane Linnell and Maureen Tibbits.

Widows meet

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Area Widows Fellowship will meet on Monday, Oct. 1, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, School Street. The gathering begins for fellowship at 11:30 a.m. followed by a potluck lunch.

Baby shower

AUBURN – Advocates for Children will host its annual Community Baby Shower for any expectant parent residing in Androscoggin County from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the YMCA. Help is needed in providing new baby items for the expectant parents.

The wish list includes baby blankets, onesies, pacifiers, teething rings, clothes, towels, wipes, washcloths, diapers, bottles, safety gates and latches, outlet covers, board books, bassinets and carseats.

Donations may be dropped off at the B Street Community Center,57 Birch St., Suite 204, Lewiston, or by calling AFC at 783-3990. Donation from the community will be accepted.
