AUBURN – Local author George F. Melvin will inaugurate the new lecture season of the Androscoggin Historical Society with a talk on “The Grand Trunk Railroad” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the society’s museum on the third floor of the Androscoggin County Building.

Melvin is the author of “Trackside Grand Trunk New England Lines,” a history of the Grand Trunk Railroad, which once connected Portland with Canada, including a link to Lewiston near Danville.

The railroad played a significant role in Lewiston’s history as a vehicle for the arrival of Canadian immigration to the station on Lincoln Street. Some of the book’s photos by John Ames, a longtime employee of the railroad, will illustrate the talk, which is free.

The museum is accessible by elevator. Refreshments will be served.
