JAY – Musician Barry Wood was presented several awards by the Down East Country Music Association in August in Mechanic Falls.

Wood of Jay is an award-winning musician who performs around the region, singing his own arrangements and playing his electric guitar accompanied by a computer-generated “band in a box.”

Wood received awards for Traditional Country Male Vocalist of the Year, Traditional Country Entertainment Rising Star Award 2007, Traditional Country Instrumentalist Rising Star Award 2007, the Most Promising Award and Best Dressed Male Artist.

He also earned awards with the Country Drifters, a band he works with. Those include Traditional Country Band of the Year, Traditional Country Vocal Group Rising Star and Best Dressed Band.

Wood, now in his early 70s, has been playing music since he was 15.

He recently released a new compact disc, “God and Country,” and will perform three shows at the Farmington Fair: 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18; noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20; and noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.
