OES visitation
AUBURN – Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.
Phyllis M. Blakely, grand conductress, will conduct the chapter’s official visitation. All Eastern Star members are welcome. The chapter has the traveling emblem for District 4. Refreshments will be served in the dining hall following the meeting.
Rotary speaker
LEWISTON – Roger Lachapelle, academic adviser will speak at the Thursday, Sept. 13, meeting of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club at the Ramada Inn.
Long-time teacher, coach and administrator in Lewiston, Lachapelle will address educating young men from all over the world. His individual programs, such at the MAINEiacs education program, will be discussed. Anyone interested in learning about the programs is invited.

Degree day
AUBURN – Androscoggin Pomona Grange, in conjunction with Oxford Pomona, will sponsor a degree day at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Danville Junction Grange. Past Master Wayne Sherman and his suite of officers will confer the first four degrees. Light refreshment will be served for a small fee between the second and third degrees. Any grange having candidates for these degrees are welcome to bring them that day.
Line dancing
AUBURN – Temple Shalom will again offer a line dancing program for adults who have had no previous dance experience and for the experienced.
Beginner/intermediate level line dancing will begin from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18. It will be an ongoing class, and the cost is $4 for each class. The class will be instructed by Marjorie Perkins of Brunswick. No partner is needed.

Scout open house
LEWISTON – Boy Scout Troop 007 will host an open house from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Vineyard Church, 12 Foss Road. Any boy in sixth grade to age 18 is welcome to attend. For more information, contact Bob Reed, scoutmaster, at 782-5482.
Backpacks needed
LEWISTON – Many students are in need of new or nearly new backpacks without wheels. If anyone has one that is appropriate for high school-aged students they would like to donate, it can be dropped off at the main office of Lewiston High School.
