College session was a family affair

PARIS – The “Sociology of the Family” class held this summer at Central Maine Community College’s Western Maine Center in South Paris included an unusual pair of students – a mother and daughter.

Sharing an interest in a career in education, Eileen Storck is an education major while daughter, Alyson, is pursuing a degree in early childhood education. Both women reside in Bryant Pond.

While they agree that attending college together is an interesting experience, one that is fun and supportive, they also admit that it can, at times, create a little bit of healthy competition.

Both mother and daughter believe that it’s great to have CMCC classes offered right in their backyard. Though they enjoy their classes on the Auburn campus, they register for as many classes at the Western Maine Center as they can, saving them commuting time and money.

According to Elaine Dunton, instructor, the mother/daughter combo added a fascinating model to the class. “It’s not often we get to study a family dynamic right in our midst. This was a wonderful learning experience.”

Fall 2007 classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 4. For a complete schedule of classes or additional information, contact Barbara Livingston at 743-9322 or [email protected].

The Western Maine University and Community College Center is located at 232 Main St.
