CUMBERLAND – The recent Camp Agawam Golf Marathon at Val Halla Golf Course in Cumberland raised more than $53,000 for six camperships for Maine boys.

Each of the 17 golfers, who solicited donations before the marathon began, played at least 100 holes in one day.

Also participating were 29 volunteers.

Agawam is an 88-year-old boys camp on Crescent Lake in Raymond.

Every summer for a week before the regular seven-week camp, Agawam invites more than 100 Maine boys age 9 to 14, including many kids from all over Androscoggin County, for a free week of camping in June. Some of those boys are invited to attend the camp free. Both the Main Idea outreach program and the camperships are funded by donations.
