LISBON FALLS – A four part workshop series on parenting and divorce will be held Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 5, from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. at the Androscoggin-Sagadahoc counties extension office at 24 Main Street. Participation is free but preregistration is required. Please call the extension office at 1-800-287-1458 or 353-5550 to register by August 28. Space is limited.
The topic of the series is Parenting Through Separation and Divorce.
“Kids are typically hit the hardest when couples separate,” explains Wendy Legg Pollock, UM Extension Educator and leader of the workshop.
“The people they probably love the most have decided that they can no longer live together. Regardless of age – toddlers to teens – children struggle with a lot of feelings such as guilt, fear, anger and sadness, and they typically feel caught in the middle between their parents.”
The series will focus on: understanding the effects of separation/divorce; helping children – what they need and what they don’t need; moving from conflict to cooperation; and communicating effectively – getting through the anger, jealousy and revenge. The remaining workshops are Sept. 5, 12, 19, and 26.
