AUBURN – Central Maine Community College Corporate and Community Services will offer “Introduction to Phlebotomy” (CED 006-21) as part of its medical career training program. The course will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 6 to Oct. 25. The cost of $399 includes materials and book.
A combination of lecture, lab and hands-on practical experience, the course is aimed at developing skills needed to work in an entry-level position in medical facilities as a phlebotomist.
Coursework includes selecting and preparing the skin puncture site, collecting specimens, adhering to the proper health and safety guidelines, patient/technician relationship and clerical duties associated with proper record keeping of laboratory tests.
Upon completion, students may qualify for employment in hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices and other health care settings.
The course will be taught by Diane Daignault and Gina Dick, phlebotomist II at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
