WESTBROOK – Rebecca McAllister of Lewiston, Bethany Williams of Lisbon, and Gwynne Hunter of Lisbon Falls were among five Maine Scouts who recently received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting.
“This is a national award, with national standards, and a young woman who has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award has become a community leader whose accomplishments reflect leadership and citizenship skills that set her apart,” said Joan McDonald, CEO of Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council.
To earn their awards, Rebecca McAllister developed a coaching program to help Special Olympic swimmers learn to swim competitively; Gwynne Hunter presented a series of musical workshops for patients at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital; and Bethany Williams organized a Women’s Health Awareness Day with workshops on diabetes, nutrition, exercise, stress management, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Guardasil vaccination.
The Gold Awards were presented at the Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council 2007 Silver & Gold Ceremony at Westbrook High School on June 2.
