PARIS – Special summer reading activities at Paris Public Library will start the last week in June with “Read to Me,” the pre-school through age 9 story hours at 10 a.m. each Wednesday and Thursday.
Children will hear stories, do an art project and make friends throughout the summer.
On Thursdays the program will also host special guests and will be video-taped for NPC TV, Channel 2, with Steve Galvin as producer/director.
From late June through August the stories and activities will focus on the following themes: “Discovering Dinosaurs,” June 25 to July 14; “Puzzling Pirates,” July 16 to 27; and “Understanding Us,” July 30 to Aug. 10.
“Mysteries of History,” a program for children through age 12, will be presented at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 27. Children are invited to explore some of the mysteries of the earth and people of long ago with Jim Chandler and the children’s room staff.
On Wednesday, July 18, at 1 p.m. the library will host an afternoon of games called “Give Me a Clue.” Detective games for children ages preschool through 12 will include dramatic games, board games and games that test detective skills at various levels.
Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 1 p.m. there will be a fingerprinting workshop with a visit from a member of the Paris Police Department and activities and crafts. Finally, on Wednesday, Aug. 15, summer reading activities will conclude with “Mysteries of Nature,” a hands-on exploration of some of the wonders of the natural world.
Throughout the summer children are invited to read books and find clues that will help them solve mystery codes.
There will be prizes for children who successfully break the code and discover the secret messages.
