Winners of the recent third annual Tri-Town Optimist Club Oratorical Contest at Elm Street School in Mechanic Falls were, from the left, Jackie Joncas of Poland, first, $1,500; Kate Bridgham of Minot, second, $1,000; and Shelby Brown of Poland, third, $500. Ten contestants from Poland, Mechanic Falls and Minot gave a four- to five-minute speech titled “My Biggest Challenge is ……” The contest coordinator was Carl Beckett, right, assisted by Karen Downing, Cheryl Downing, El Fanus, Shawn Vincent and George Mathews. The judges were Love Barkhurst, Sue Verrill and Ila Green. The timer was Dana Lee.
