Cub Scouting

DIXFIELD – Boy Scouts of America is looking for families who want to participate in a new Cub Scout program in the Dixfield area.

In Cub Scouting, boys in first through fifth grade and their families take part in a program that builds character and instills values. Cub Scouting embraces the values of citizenship, compassion, cooperation, courage, faith, health and fitness, honesty, perseverance, positive attitude, resourcefulness, respect and responsibility.

Scout officials are talking with parents who want to get involved and officials want to get a full-fledged Cub Scout Pack going for the fall.

This summer there is a day camp for boys going into second through fifth grade, Fun Pack Weekend for all Cub Scouts and Webelos Camp for boys going into fourth and fifth grade who would like to try out the program.

Quilters to meet

RUMFORD – Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 11, for the last meeting of the year and for a potluck supper. Those planning to attend are asked to take food to share and their own placesetting.

Those who wish to participate in a “square swap” should bring six -inch 100 percent washed cotton squares in a patriotic color or design. Show-and-tell is welcome. Call 562-7050 for details. Members should note the change of time to 5:30 p.m. for this meeting only.

Church hours

ANDOVER – Calvary Bible Church, 1063 South Main St., has announced summer hours.

Pastor Ken Wagstaff said Sunday worship and junior church will be at 9:30 a.m. with brunch following. There will be Wednesday Bible study and prayer meeting at 6:30 p.m. and junior-senior high groups from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Girls’ tea party

MEXICO – The Mexico Public Library will host an American Girl Tea Party for girls ages 5 to 11 at 1 p.m. Monday, July 2, at the Calvin Lyons Hall next door to the library.

Those attending will meet American Girl Molly and travel back in time with her to 1942 during World War II. Girls will work on a craft and play games from that era. Snacks and drinks will be served.

American Girl dolls are invited to attend with their owners. Although not necessary, girls are invited to dress in the style of clothing that was popular for girls in the 1940s. RSVPs are encouraged and appreciated. For more information, call the library at 364-3281 or inquire at the circulation desk.

Picnic for seniors

FRYEBURG – The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office TRIAD Program will host its annual Senior Appreciation Day Picnic and is inviting all Oxford County senior citizens.

The event, to be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 29, at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds, is free.

There will be popcorn, coffee, doughnuts, a picnic lunch, ice cream and cookies, door prizes and musical entertainment. There will also be a Chinese auction, a book and fudge sale and 50/50 tickets to help fund TRIAD projects.
