RUMFORD – The Oxford County Democrats’ County Committee met on May 10 and featured a PowerPoint presentation by young people from Mountain Valley High School, their teachers and a parent, who made an April trip to New Orleans to work for Habitat for Humanity.

“This was an incredibly inspiring presentation and it was clear that the experience has significantly affected all who attended,” said county Chairwoman Cathy Newell.

The students who presented were Maegin Jolin, Christina Puiia, Tayla Cunningham, Terissa Ridge, Molly Kaubris and Christie Folsom. Others who went on the trip were Jessie Sirois, DJ Gerrish, Devin Roberts, Aaron Cayer and Maddy Alyward.

The adults who accompanied the students were teachers Kristin Tyler, Ken Baker and Carrie Youcis. They, plus parent Jim Ridge, took part in the presentation. Sara Nics of MPBN also went on the trip and assisted in the preparation of the video.

Democratic elected officials and party leaders have been attending community events, including recent chamber awards dinners. The River Valley Chamber dinner was attended by Rep. John Patrick, Sen. Bruce Bryant, Sheriff Wayne Gallant, Newell, County Democratic Treasurer Mike Broderick and his wife, Eileen, and volunteer Jim Whittemore.

The Bethel Chamber dinner was attended by Rep. Tim Carter, Gallant, Newell, Mike and Eileen Broderick, Andrea Quaid of Congressman Michaud’s staff and former legislator now with the Maine Department of Conservation Bob Duplessie. Bryant was the Patriots’ Day speaker in Hartford.

The Oxford County Democratic Committee is looking forward to a busy summer of festivals and parades and will hold its annual summer fundraiser and Family Fun Day on Sunday, Aug. 26, at the Conservation School in Bryant Pond.
