PORTLAND – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is offering a three-hour “Preserving the Harvest” workshop in several locations. There is a materials fee of $10 a person.

Tuesday, June 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., York County Cooperative Extension, Springvale. Register by June 1.
Friday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Casco Fire Station, 637 Meadow Road, Casco. Register by June 1.
Wednesday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Cumberland Fairgrounds demo kitchen, Cumberland. Register by June 8.
Thursday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Androscoggin/Sagadahoc County Cooperative Extension Office, Lisbon Falls. Register by June 8.
Participants will receive a “Preserving the Harvest” food preservation packet. They will learn recommended methods for preserving foods, the latest and safest recipes, equipment to insure safety and how to check for properly sealed jars.
Participants may bring their own pressure canning gauge to class for a free accuracy calibration and should bring a potholder.
Those attending should make checks payable to UMCE, putting “Preserving the Harvest” in the memo section, and mail to the attention of Lois Elwell, UMCE, P.O. Box 9300, Portland, ME 04104-9300.
