NORWAY – Stone-Smart American Legion Auxiliary Unit 82 met April 11 with President Kin Hansen presiding.

Poppy Chairwomen Kin Hansen stated that Poppy Days will be May 11 and 12 at the Rite Aid Store and at the Lake Store and on May 25 and 26 at Wal-Mart.

Americanism Chairwoman Barbara Henley recently went to Guy E. Rowe School to read American history stories to second-graders. She gave them all an American Flag bracelet and a patriotic tattoo.

Attending the Department Junior Convention were Kim Hansen, Marilyn Jones and Elaine Rogers and junior member Deanna Merchant.

Delegates to the department convention will be Marilyn Jones, Joyce Clifford, Lucille Allen and Joyce Bickford. Alternate is Elaine Rogers. Ruth Jucius will be delegate-at-large.

Election of officers was held as follows: president, Marilyn Jones; first vice president, Jean Millett; second vice president, Thelma Denlinger; secretary, Joyce Clifford; treasurer, Rose Moulton; historian, Barbara Henley; sergeant-at-arms, Marie Pingree; chaplain, Christine Weiss; Executive Committee, Ellen Snow, Eleanor Durant and Beulah Ayer.

Girls State Chairwoman Joyce Clifford reported that Amelia Moore, Amanda June Chaves and Lorraine Gedat will be delegates to Girls State at Husson College, Bangor, in June. Alternates are Karen Kumaki and Kristianna Springer.

Membership certificates for five years were presented to Beulah Ayer, Eleanor Durant, Avery Smith, Eaton Smith, Karen Smith and Carol Garity; 10 years, Deanna Merchant, Dale Burnell, Linda Skinner and Stephanie Snow; 25 years, Joyce Bickford; 40 years, Lucille Allen and Marjy Sessions.

Rose Moulton presented Sessions with a red, white and blue corsage, as she was a member for 15 years, then left for a time and rejoined for 40 years more, making her total 55 years.

The meeting was preceded by an Italian supper served by the men. Legionnaires Arnold Pendexter, Ralph Millett and Randy Henley served on the supper committee.
