AUBURN – The Maggie Trafton Authors for Young Readers series is offered yearly by the Auburn Public Library Children’s Department and has brought authors, illustrators, and other special programs to Auburn and Lewiston children and their families since 1994.
This year, the series will bring Tanglewood Marionettes, a nationally touring marionette theater from Massachusetts, for a performance of a classic fairy tale, “Sleeping Beauty,” starring hand-crafted marionettes brought to life by master puppeteers.
The story appeals to all ages and has been described as “an enchanting experience.” The performance will begin with a brief demonstration of the art of puppetry. Through humorous interplay, the audience will learn about various forms of puppets, from the simple glove puppet to the sophisticated marionette. A question-and-answer session will conclude the performance.
The event will be held at the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall at Bates College at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14. Seating is limited. Tickets are required and are available in the Auburn Public Library Children’s Department. A $2 donation will help support the library.
