RUMFORD – Mollyockett Trout Unlimited will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at the Boiler Room. Bob Hatch of Fryeburg, storyteller, guide and chapter VP, will discuss Atlantic salmon fishing on the Mirimichi River. There will be a door prize drawing. All are welcome.

Committee meeting

PARIS – The Western Maine Veterans Advisory Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at the Maine Veterans Home, South Paris.

Guest speaker will be Len Greaney of Rumford. He will talk on the veterans who died in the Vietnam War. A group of veterans is planning a monument to honor them. The meeting is open to all veterans, wives and friends.

Book chat

NORWAY – The Afternoon Book Chat will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Norway Memorial Library. The program is ideal for those who enjoy meeting informally with others to share their love of reading. The format is a simple open discussion about fiction, nonfiction or poetry. Supper, auction

PARIS – A benefit supper and silent auction will be held for Gemma Boutilier, who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and has undergone a double mastectomy.

The meal will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 23, at the South Paris Legion Hall, Church Street, South Paris. The auction will follow from 6 to 7. The menu will include spaghetti and meatballs, garden salad with dressing, garlic bread, desserts and beverage.

The cost is $6 a person and $4 for children under 10. Auction tickets will be sold from 4 to 5:45 p.m.; the cost is 25 tickets for $5. There will also be a $1 table and 50/50 tickets.

Inside yard sale

OXFORD – An inside yard sale will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 23, 24 and 25, at His Place Teen Center, 254 Webber Brook Road.

It will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. all three days. Items include household, furniture, appliances, clothes, books and toys.

The center will hold an open house with free coffee and doughnuts and people will be able to make purchases from the snack bar. Items will be displayed in the game room and multi-purpose room and bigger items will be on the front porch.

The center is still accepting items for the sale, especially furniture, household and general merchandise. Some items have to be approved before the center can accept them. Call Bert Rugg at 743-9503 or cell 515-3000. All proceeds will benefit the center.

Society speaker

OXFORD – The Oxford Historical Society will hold its first meeting of 2007 at 7 p.m. Friday, March 30, at the Kay House, Pleasant Street. Members will hold a short business meeting followed by a program, then refreshments. Judith Hayes, also known as “Warm Tears,” will talk about her journey with her grandmother years ago when they walked to Canada. The public is welcome.

Bridge results

NORWAY – The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met March 16 in the Fare Share Commons when a four-table Howell movement was played.

Finishing first in Flight A were Dick Allen and Mike True; second, Pat and Mike Quinn; third, Cindy Kirchherr and Arlen Riis, who were also first in Flight B. Second in B were Barbara and Paul Beegel.
