On Thursday, January 15, Philip W. Sugg Middle School held a baked bean supper, organized by the seventh grade faculty, students and family volunteers. The supper was one of many efforts to raise enough money for the entire seventh grade class to attend the Camp Kieve Leadership School for a week. The bean supper was not as successful as the spaghetti supper in November. Approximately $470 was raised thanks to the silent auction items donated by area businesses and others in the community, according to PWS seventh grade teacher, Mrs. Laurie Deraspe.
Everyone had hoped for a better turnout, but the sub-zero temperatures may have kept people at home. The supper included beans and brown bread donated by B&M Baked Beans in Portland, hot dogs and rolls, salad, fruit punch, and a variety of delicious desserts. The seventh grade class is looking forward to going to the leadership school at Camp Kiev the third week of March.
