DEDHAM, Mass. — Oscar Alban Legere died peacefully Wednesday, April 25, at the age of 101. He was the loving husband of the late Laura (Glenfield) Legere, married 73 years. He is survived by daughters, Karen (Legere) DiFranco and husband, Frank, of Fall River, Mass., Jane (Legere) Dacey and husband, Michael, of West Roxbury, Mass., and Suzanne (Legere) Irish and husband, Stephen, of Acton, Mass.; cherished grandfather of Christine Wright, Veronica Hagerman, Sandra DiFranco, Jamie and Leslie Chavez, Oscia Morgan and Jesse Legere, also survived by seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by daughters Patricia Legere and Margaret (Legere) Stacey; parents, Josephine (Richard) and Irenee Legere; brother, Aurele Legere; sisters, Annette Lennon and Lorette Young.

Oscar was born in Rumford, a graduate of Stephens High School and a WWII veteran, 32nd Photographic Reconnaissance in Italy, France and the Balkans. He studied art at Portland School of Art and U of Maine, Farmington, was an art teacher at the Greater Rumford Community Center for 35 years and for several years in The Villages, Fla. He owned and ran Legere’s Hardware Store in Rumford with his brother. He resided in Alfred, The Villages, Fla., and more recently in Dedham, Mass., at Traditions of Dedham, where he enjoyed his many friends and the wonderful staff members who all loved him so much.

Other passions include playing the violin, saxophone, clarinet and harmonica, photography, a heartwarming ventriloquist with his dummy, Elmer, ski jumper at Chisholm Ski Club, golfer, Rotarian, first president of the Maine Cystic Fibrosis Association, K of C, Am. Legion, VFW member and his summer home at Worthley Pond. He and his wife traveled to 39 countries and fully enjoyed life together.
