In Social Studies we have been learning about the Presidential elections. We are actually voting in our school. My Social Studies teacher, Mrs. Renee Davis, along with other Social Studies teachers, Mr. Mark Thibodeau and Ms. Judith Reed, assigned classes to make posters where students were given a candidate for or against Question One which stated, “Do you want to reject the parts of new law that change the method of funding Maine’s Dirigo Health Program through charging health insurance companies a fixed fee on pain claims and adding taxes to malt liquor, wine and soft drinks?”

Question Two was, “Do you want to allow a certain Maine company to have the only casino in Maine, to be located in Oxford County, if part of the revenue is used to fund specific state programs?” Learning about the elections now will help us in the future when it is our time to stand up and vote. These elections are important to our world. They could end up changing everything.

The election is going to affect everyone in the country because whoever becomes president will make the big decisions about what is going to happen to our country and our lives. Requirements for our posters were to have more than five facts, the referendum question or the candidate. My partner Nicole Barry and I have Yes for Question Two. The casino would give over 800 unemployed people jobs. Some of the money would help college students to help pay off loans and help people pay off previous loans from college.
