AUBURN – Representatives from L/A Harley Davidson and The Rack were on hand at the Boys and Girls Club of Auburn/Lewiston’s annual meeting on Oct. 26 to present a check representing the proceeds of the first Surf and Turf Ride held on Sept. 30.

The ride started at L/A Harley-Davidson, which coordinated the event, with about 100 bikes. Additional riders joined along the route, and when it ended at The Rack, located at the base of Sugarloaf Mountain, the group had grown to more than 200 bikes.

The event far exceeded expectations, raising more than $3,000 for the club. Money was raised through sponsorships by local businesses, T-shirt sales and a poker run 50-50 game. John Story, owner of L/A Harley, took part in organizing the ride.

Preparations are already under way for next year, and organizers intend to make the Surf and Turf Ride an annual event.

Boys and Girls Clubs of America comprises a national network of more than 4,000 neighborhood-based facilities annually serving over 4.6 million young people, primarily from disadvantaged circumstances.

Boys and Girls Club of Auburn/Lewiston has served area youth since 1995. More than 500 kids are members or participate in club programs. Its mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
