FARMINGTON – Flu shots will be available on the Healthy Community Coalition’s mobile health unit. From Monday, Nov. 6, through Saturday, Nov. 18, the mobile health unit will park in a public place and be available to administer the influenza vaccine.
Before going to the mobile unit, it is recommended that people contact their primary care provider to see about getting the flu shot through them. Most insurance companies cover the shot. Also ask about the need for the pneumonia vaccination, which would be provided at a doctor’s office, not at the mobile health unit.
Influenza is a highly infectious disease of the lungs and can lead to pneumonia. Typical symptoms include fever, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headache, muscle aches and extreme fatigue. The best time to be vaccinated against influenza is October and November. However, vaccination in December or later can still be beneficial.
Due to the cost of the vaccine, there is suggested donation of $15. The flu shot can be provided free if needed or a donation of what a person can afford would be accepted. Insurance, Medicare or Medicaid can not be accepted.
The Healthy Community Coalition does buy all vaccine used for the mobile health unit and appreciates all donations to help cover costs.
Flu shots will be provided to those 18 years old and older. Those under 18 are recommended to see their primary care medical provider.
