Directives workshop

LEWISTON – St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center will host a free workshop/retreat on advance directives from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, or 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 31.

The session will include scripture reflection, a presentation on suffering and death from a Christian perspective and a step-by-step look at the state’s advance directive form. Participants who have already prepared advance directives can bring them and determine if they need an update in the light of recent changes.

Participants who have never written a directive will receive information and guidance to begin the process. The session will be presented by Marguerite Stapleton, vice president of mission effectiveness, and Dale Morrell, director of education. The presentation will be held in the Club 50 room next to Campus Cuisine at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. To register, call 753-5467.

VFW meeting

LEWISTON – Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 will meet at noon Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Lewiston Elks Lodge, 1675 Lisbon St. All officers and members are encouraged to attend.

The agenda will include scholarships, the Voice of Democracy and Patriotic Pen contests, Veterans Day, poppy sales and VFW activities.

From 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, there will be a spaghetti dinner at the Lewiston High School for Lewiston AFJROTC student scholarships. Donations are $5.

Legion to meet

LISBON FALLS – Nelson-Conley American Legion Post 66 will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the Slovak Meeting Room, Avery Street. All members, prospective members and active-duty personnel are invited to attend.

Seniors session

AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Hasty Community Center. The board will meet at 10 a.m. Members should bring a bag lunch. Bingo will be played after lunch.

Tickets will be on sale for the Thanksgiving luncheon that will be at Martindale Country Club on Tuesday, Nov. 14. The cost is $6.

The club met Oct. 18 with 77 present. President Caroline Chapman announced that the fair and flea market were a success and thanked all that helped. Lucien Marcoux prepared the Halloween lunch.

Pat Record was the winner with the best costume. Attendance winners were Don Martin and Aileen Harnden; pot of gold, Guy Donahue, Gerry Timberlake and Roger Briggs.

Cribbage play

GREENE – Cribbage tournaments will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. each Wednesday, starting Nov. 1, at the Meadows Senior Living Center, Route 202. All level of player are welcome. Prizes and snack will be provided and there will be no fees. For more information, call 946-3007.

Trip to pond

SABATTUS – Merrymeeting Audubon will take a trip to Sabattus Pond in Sabattus from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 4, to view the large concentrations of migrating waterfowl, including ruddy and ring-necked ducks, hooded mergansers, scaup and coots. Memorial Mass

LEWISTON – There will be a combined Mass at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at St. Joseph’s Church for deceased members of the St. Joseph’s Queen’s Guild and the St. Patrick’s Rosary Sodality. Refreshments will follow in the St. Joseph’s Parish Hall.

Recitation of the Rosary will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the St. Patrick’s Chapel and there will be a short service to remember deceased sodalists. A regular meeting will follow, then members will share memories of sodalists and meetings past. Refreshments will be served.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Oct. 24 were: first/second tie, Marta Clements and Luke Merry with Mary Leahey and Patricia Quinn; third, Janet Arey and Nancy Lindgren; fourth, Anita Perrier and Rosemarie Goodwin.

Club winners at Schooner Estates in Auburn on Oct. 25 were: first, Larry Fortier and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; third, Sherrie Hinckley and Fred Letourneau; fourth, Martine Begert and Patricia Garcia; first in B, Helen Little and Anita Perrier; second in B, Carolyn Robertson and Bob Berry.
