LEWISTON – The Lewiston Public Library is planning a series of art and science after-school programs for children ages 8 to 12 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Oct. 4.

The first program, a Cornerstones of Science program titled “Animal Tracks,” led by Jocelyn Hubbell, will teach children about observing animals in the wild. Children will first be shown how to mix plaster of paris and put in a simulated animal track. Then while the molds dry, Hubbell will demonstrate the basics of identifying animal tracks and explain the best methods to see animals in the forest.

The remaining Wednesdays in October will be reserved for 90-minute art projects with book-related themes such as “Altered Books” or “Build a Book,” where children will be guided through the process of creating their own book. By November the library hopes to have children painting murals.

Parents may reserve a place for their children by calling the library at 784-0135, ext 4.
