AUBURN – The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer a two-part workshop on “Business Writing” (CCS 033-01) from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17 and 24. The cost is $135.
The workshop will focus on the development of business correspondence, including letters, memos and resumes. The importance of tone, format and etiquette will be stressed. The workshop will offer suggestions on writing concisely for accurate interpretation and how writing for a business context or audience is different from other writing.
The program will be facilitated by Jim Milliken. Milliken is president and principal consultant of Jim Milliken Consulting, working with businesses all over New England to bring positive organizational change.
He was a newspaper editor for nearly 30 years before opening his consulting business in 1986. Milliken has more than 15 years of teaching and training experience in the areas of project management, supervision, teambuilding and communication.
He has taught at Central Maine Community College, Boston University, University of Southern Maine, the University of New England, St. Joseph’s College and others around New England.
“Grant Writing II for Nonprofits” (CCS 082-01), an advanced grant writing workshop, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Oct. 18. The cost is $65 and includes materials.
The workshop will guide participants through the process of generating a rough draft with the necessary pieces of a typical grant proposal, including the narrative, budget and cover letter.
The workshop will be helpful to those organizations that need help in following through on their commitment to be more productive in seeking funding from foundations and other corporate sources.
The workshop will be facilitated by Christos Gianopoulos. In his consulting business Christos has assisted business professionals and other committed individuals to clarify their thinking about the direction and management of their enterprises.
Christos has decades of experience in personal and professional development, leadership of community initiatives and teaching. He has been a project director for nonprofit organizations such as Maine Audubon Society and the Maine Lyceum.
A graduate of Bowdoin College, Christos holds graduate degrees from American University and Syracuse University.
“U-R Awesome!” (CCS 006-01) will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on two consecutive Thursdays, Oct. 19 and 26. The workshop is for anyone who wants to learn how to be more positive in a negative world and will be facilitated by author and nationally know speaker Michelle Neujahr. The cost is $125 and includes materials.
Neujahr will challenge participants to stop the negative and start the positive. Attendees will be inspired to make a positive impact in their organization right now through effective communication.
She will show participants how to implement simple, yet powerful, communication techniques that are designed to build confidence, change attitudes and transform company culture. Individuals will learn the U-R awesome! power tools.
With more than a decade of experience as a national speaker, Neujahr has given more than 1,000 presentations to audiences across the country. Her programs are designed to motivate individuals to take immediate action, maximize their potential, increase productivity and make a positive difference in their organization.
