LEWISTON – The artwork of Dan Cake of Auburn is being featured during July by the Woman’s Hospital Association of Central Maine Medical Center.

Cake said, “At about the age of 4, I realized the creative process was going to be an important part of who I am; always finding great pleasure in drawing and painting.”

He attended the Portland School of Art after high school. He enlisted in the the Navy and worked in graphic arts . He subsequently worked for a number of printing companies in Maine and is a graphic artist for Geiger in Lewiston.

Cake works with a number of mediums, including opaque watercolor, pen and ink, scratchboard, silverpoint and graphite. He said, “My work these days tends to be realistic and detailed in nature. The work spans a range of subject matter.”

Cake has had a number of shows and won prizes along the way. He said, “For me, the process seems to be the thing I enjoy most. I love to tap into creative thought and its endless possibilities. Occasionally diving into uncharted waters and suddenly discovering a new path, it can be very exhilarating.”

The Woman’s Hospital Association supports Center Maine Medical Center and its patients. Those interested in joining the association or in the monthly artist showings should call 795-2295.
