When the new soccer season started, there were always kids jumping out of their seats unable to wait to start playing in a game. At Monmouth Middle School, new kids that came from out of state or from other schools could also start playing soccer right off the bat.
The first day of try-outs, the girls had a total of 50 girls trying out, which is the best year we have had yet. The boys had a total of 19 boys try-out. All kids that tried out made either the A or B team.
The coach of the Monmouth Middle School girls’ soccer team is Jenora Shultz, we know her as Coach Jen, and the coach of the B-team is Amy Parsons. The coach for the boy’s team is Russ Neal, they know him as Coach Neal. The captains for the girls soccer team are Danielle Bumann, Abby Marshall, Addie Ortiz-Burnham and Melissa Brassard. The captains for the boys’ soccer team are Russel Neal, Devin West, Drew McFarren and Adam Parsons.
At the beginning of the season, the commitment you make to the team is to go to all the practices and all of the games. The practices aren’t a once in a while thing, it is every day. We work every day together as a team. That’s how we learn our strengths and weaknesses. We work hard, but also have fun doing it.
This year, in soccer, both the girls and boys are having a really good season. If they don’t, at least they had fun playing the game.
