PORTLAND – Dr. Barry Rodrigue, assistant professor of arts and humanities, and Julia Trujillo Luengo, a student in arts and sciences, were honored recently at a recognition ceremony held at the University of Southern Maine’s Portland campus.

Rodrigue, who serves as the scholar for the Franco-American Collection at USM/Lewiston-Auburn, received the Outstanding Faculty Involvement Award.

He serves as the adviser for International Students of Lewiston-Auburn, a multicultural and international student group that focuses on the promotion of diversity in the United States. Rodrigue has also been instrumental in organizing a number of campus activities, including the recent May Day International Workers’ event.

Trujillo Luengo was given the Outstanding Contribution to Campus Life Award. The award is designed to recognize a student who has made a significant impact in improving USM campus life for other students.

Trujillo Luengo, who lives in Auburn, was cited for her many efforts with ISOLA and the Student Government Association in fostering greater multicultural awareness on the L-A campus.
