MACHIAS – Washington County Community College has chosen two Outstanding Educators of the Year. The award goes to a deserving individual who has gone above and beyond what is required in educating youth.
For the first time this year, it goes to two educators: Peter Barlow and Norman Jamison of Region 9.
In deciding the award, college officials spoke with former students attending the college, students who have graduated from the college and others in education who know the nominee.
With the award goes a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded in increments of $500 over the student’s first two semesters at the college. The student receiving the scholarship will be decided by the award winners.
Barlow and Jamison have sought donations of materials to build classrooms, spent summers to complete the work and they drive a school bus so that students may attend extracurricular activities. The award states that, most of all, the teachers have spent their energy and time teaching students to aspire to be all that they can be.
