LEWISTON – The Lewiston High School Football Booster Club is under taking a major fundraising campaign, to purchase 60 new state of the art Riddell Revolution Helmets for the junior varsity and varsity football teams for the 2006 football season.
After receiving approval from athletic director Jason Fuller and head coach Bill County, assistant football coach Michael Ouellette presented the idea to the Booster Club.
“I was hoping to get enough interest going in the project to raise the needed funds,” he said. The goal was to raise enough to give each high school football player a new Revolution Helmet.
“I was trying to include every player on the team. The helmet promotes safety. Research results are very positive, showing that the helmet significantly lowers the risk of concussion to the athlete when compared to traditional football helmets,” Ouellette said.
After being presented to the Booster Club, the project took root. “Everyone was very impressed with the safety features and agreed that all the players should receive the new helmet,” said Booster Vice President Rhonda Obie.
With suggestions and input from booster members Marc Letourneau and Ray Roy, the club introduced the first LHS Football Booster Club Golf Tournament to be held on Sunday, June 25, at Fairlawn Country Club in Poland.
“We’re focusing on the golf tournament right now and planning the annual raffle in September to continue raising the needed funds,” said Booster President Cathy Blais.

County was presented a check recently, marking the halfway point in raising the funds. The amount was an accumulation of donations from business and others, solicited and collected by Ouellette.
