Lodge meeting
AUBURN – Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94 will meet on Monday, June 19, for its last meeting before summer recess. The regular meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at the summer cottage of the Thorpe family, 50 Megquier Hill Road, Poland.

Seniors trip
LEWISTON – Lewiston Senior Citizens are offering a trip to the Maine State Music Theater in Brunswick on Thursday, June 22, to see the play, “South Pacific.” Seven seats are still available. The motor coach will leave the Multi-Purpose Center and will stop at Captain Mike’s for lunch before the production (cost of lunch is on their own). Cost is $59 a person. VFW agenda
LISBON – VFW Post 9459 and Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at the post home, Route 196. Agenda items will include inviting all veterans to find out their benefits. Alliance to meet
BRUNSWICK – The annual meeting of the Five Rivers Arts Alliance will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, June 19, in the Morrell Meeting Room, Curtis Memorial Library, when the premiere of a new PowerPoint about the alliance will be presented. The agenda also includes introduction of new board officers and members.
The mission of the alliance is connecting regional arts, culture and heritage through advocacy, education, promotion and celebration. The 12 communities served by the Arts Alliance include Bath, Brunswick, Topsham, Harpswell, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Richmond, West Bath, Phippsburg, Woolwich, Arrowsic and Georgetown.
The five rivers are the Kennebec, Androscoggin, Cathance, New Meadows and Sheepscot that encompass the alliance’s area.
Dog classes
AUBURN – The Great Falls Dog Obedience Club will start another six-week dog obedience class Wednesday, June 21, in Auburn. Beginners will meet at 6:30 p.m. and advanced at 7:30. Seniors to install
AUBURN – The First Auburn Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Hasty Community Center. Lunch will be Italian sandwiches. Installation of officers will be held.
On Aug. 22, Young at Heart Seniors will offer a trip to the Carousel Music Theatre and Supper Club Show in Boothbay Harbor. Price of $58 a person includes luncheon, show, gratuity, transportation and driver gratuity. Contact Joyce Poole at 784-3429 or Doris Michael at 782-6962.
The club met June 7 with Caroline Chapman presiding with 67 present. After a bag lunch, bingo was played. Attendance winners were Kay Deburra and Theo Parker; pot of gold, Lorraine Marcous, Dodie Juneau and Aileen Harnden.
Society speaker
POLAND – At the May meeting of the Poland Historical Society, Bud Jordan presented the society with the Poland ministerial minute book with the minutes from the 1887 annual meeting through the 2005 meeting. It was presented to the Board of Selectmen by Linda Laskey to be given to the Historical Society.
At the June 21 meeting of the Poland Historical Society, Laskey will be present to speak about the organization and its history. The public is welcome. Following the meeting, refreshments will be served.
The Old Schoolhouse will be open to the public on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. from June 27 through the end of August. Members of the Poland Historical Society will be available to give tours and answer questions.
Cancer program
LEWISTON – “Look Good … Feel Better,” the American Cancer Society’s program for assisting women who are faced with appearance changes resulting from cancer treatment, will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 21, at Central Maine Medical Center’s Sam and Jennie Bennett Breast Care Center, 12 High St., Suite 103.

Society speaker
LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Historical Society and Lisbon Library welcome former Lisbon and Freeport area resident Franklin Gould to a discussion and signing of his recently published book, “The Woman’s Right, a Story of My Maine Grandmother, 1848-1927,” at the Lisbon Historical Society at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24.

Distribution day
AUBURN – Auburn AC SERVE, a part of SERVE New England’s food and volunteer program, will hold Distribution Day from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 24, at the Auburn Advent Christian Church, Whitney Street entrance.

Kiwanis winners
AUBURN – The Auburn-Lewiston Kiwanis Club has announced three winners of $750 scholarships: Rebekah E. Choate, Amanda R. Burgess and Katelyn D. St. Pierre.
The scholarships will be paid to the students after completion of the first semester. The winners will be invited to a lunch meeting during the Christmas break to receive the award.
Crafters wanted
AUBURN – The annual Auburn Middle School fall craft fair committee is accepting reservations for tables. The fair will be held on Nov. 18 at the school. Crafters are invited to call Churchill Barton at 782-7863 to reserve a spot.
Golf scramble
LEEDS – Springbrook Golf Course was the location of the seventh annual St. Peter Sacred Heart School Golf Scramble fundraiser on May 19. The field of 120-plus players were awarded more than $5,000 in door prizes, auctions and raffles. Paul Landry supplied a barbecue dinner. First place in the A flight went to the Dad’s Place team.
Council awards
LEWISTON – Holy Cross Parish Council 12652, Knights of Columbus, and Auxiliary held a year-end banquet on May 24. Awards were handed out for knight of the month from July 2005 to June 2006 and family of the month from July 2005 to June 2006.
An award was given for the knight of the year, Louis Bourgoin, for work that he does for the council. The family of the year award was given to Grand Knight Larry Thibault and his wife, Diane, elected auxiliary treasurer, for all they do to help the council.
