FARMINGTON – The Literacy Volunteers of Franklin and Somerset Counties will hold the annual used book sale on Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30, at the Elks Lodge in West Farmington.

The hours on Saturday will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A wide variety of books will be available.

The annual sale is a major fund-raiser for the literacy organization, which trains volunteer tutors to help adults improve their literacy skills on a one-to-one confidential basis. Teen tutors are also trained to assist their peers and younger students. In addition, the organization supports family literacy programs and provides readers in schools and nursing homes.

The Franklin-Somerset Affiliate of Literacy Volunteers of America has been working for 27 years to raise the level of literacy so that Maine residents have access to the full range of economic, social and personal opportunities.
