AUBURN – The Woman’s Literary Union has announced the expansion of its book club program hosted by the After Dark Club. The evening group has added a Friday night Book Review Club to be held at 6:30 p.m. on the second Friday of the month in addition to the Thursday night club. Both programs meet at the clubhouse in the Horatio G. Foss Mansion, 19 Elm St.

As the main purpose of the union is the cultural and intellectual advancement of women, many of the After Dark Club’s members had expressed the desire to expand the literary program.

The Friday night venue will provide the community with the opportunity to attend a book club designed to meet each individual’s preferred genres and tastes in literature. The evening allows members to have a more open choice in attending the program that best fits into their individual schedules.

The After Dark Club initiated the original book club in the fall of 2001 and will continuing the Thursday night club program through June, when they will break for the summer.

The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 9, at the clubhouse. The group will discuss “Runaway” by Alice Munroe, following a brief general meeting, which will highlight Woman’s Literary Union announcements as well as the executive committee reports.

A light fare of desserts and tea will be served throughout the evening. Brenda Field, club hospitality facilitator, will provide the hospitality. All are welcome to attend.

The Friday club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 10, at the clubhouse when they will discuss “Everyone Worth Knowing” by Lauren Weisberger, author of “The Devil Wears Prada.”

Those attending will be added to the guest list, and each attendee will choose a book on a rotating monthly basis. There will be no general meeting, and hospitality will not be provided. The new option will provide a stress-free, low-maintenance program. The club will continue throughout the summer.

Members will be informed of the Woman’s Literary Union updates and announcements by e-mail or post if they wish to be added to the current mailing list.

Those wishing to attend should contact Laurie H. St. Pierre, club president, at 333-6986. Interested parties may also e-mail wlubookreviewclub@hotmail.com. WLU members and nonmembers are welcome.
