FARMINGTON – Basket Beano and the annual “Price is Right” game are two of the major fundraiser being planned by the Farmington Rotary Club and tickets are on sale for both events.
Basket Beano will be held Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Farmington Elks Lodge, School Street, and the “Price is Right” at Mt. Blue High School on Friday, March 24. Proceeds of all fundraisers support more than two dozen community activities and service programs.
Only 180 tickets are being sold for Basket Beano, with 25 gift-filled collectible Longberger baskets as game prizes. Tickets are $15 and the doors open at 11 a.m. Call co-chairwoman Debra Harris for ticket information at 779-9000.
In other club news, a new Rotary Interact Club has been started at Mt. Blue High School and the 11 members will participate in school, community and global services projects.
The newly-elected officers are: president, Ashley Goucher; vice president, Brittany Williams; secretary, Serach Ramu; and co-treasurers, Meredith Fast and Rebecca Schoen. Other members are Ashley Lewia, Leanna Kapiloff, Emily Loring, Jason Mungin, Elisabeth Stancioff and Kimberly White.
The club’s two newest members are Gil Reed, president of Nichols Development LLC, which owns the Nichols Bass Technology Center in Wilton, and Industry Selectman and NorthStar EMS Paramedic Lee Ireland.
The club meets at 7:15 a.m. Wednesdays in the conference room at Foster Applied Technology Center, and new members are welcome. Club advisers are Rotarians Glen Kapiloff, director at the tech center; SAD 9 volunteer coordinator Pauline Rodrigue; and Al Feather of Hammond Lumber.
About $9,000 was raised at the annual Festival of Trees on Chester Greenwood Day in December through the annual decorated tree auction. The club donated 90 pairs of pajamas to Operation Santa Claus that were gift-wrapped by Pierce House residents and collected by the Franklin County Children’s Task Force.
In the past four months, the club has donated thousands of dollars to help such projects as the Care and Share Food Pantry, Operation Santa Claus, Abused Women’s Advocacy Project, Mt. Blue Middle School cheerleaders, the Syncopations choral group, Girls Talk and the Farmington District Court holiday party for foster children.
Recent world service donations have been sent to a Rotary Club in Cucuta, Colombia, to help the club buy sewing machines that can provide single mothers in a poor, rural village with a livelihood.
