LEWISTON – The Vineyard Christian School second- and third-grades took a morning field trip to Mercy Works on Nov. 4. Their mission: to learn about the role Mercy Works plays in the lives of the Vineyard community and beyond.

Located on 235 Lisbon St., Mercy Works is a mission of the Vineyard Church. Headed by Rosie and Matt Graham, this mission focuses on helping to feed, clothe and have fellowship with families and individuals in all states of need.

The students have been learning about the importance of giving and serving their school and church community. Now they are learning to reach beyond their familiar environment to the local community. As volunteers for the morning, the students donated food, stocked shelves and hung clothes.

The school and Mercy Works are asking for volunteers or donations to the mission. For the next few months, a box outside the second-grade classroom will be available for dropped off food and clothing. All food must be boxed or canned.

Volunteers are also needed to stock shelves, give items away or host children after school. For more information on volunteering or the programs offered through Mercy Works, contact Matt or Rosie at 784-9500.

Hours are 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays, drop off food and clothing; 10 a.m. to noon, food and clothing pantry open; 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, teen kinship; 5 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Spanish/English language Bible study, subject to change. Call ahead. Emergency calls will be taken by appointment through the week.
