NORWAY – Stone-Smart Post 82, American Legion, Auxiliary met Nov. 9 with President Kim Hansen presiding.

Ellen Snow reported that she donated items to Community Concepts this fall with an estimated value of $3,525. Items included TVs, baby furniture and strollers, sports equipment, puzzles, toys and games, adult clothes, shoes and coats. The articles were collected by Albert Mercuri, a member of Post 82, and distributed by Snow. Snow noted the program will end at the end of the year as Community Concepts will not have funding.

Joyce Clifford and Rose Moulton, co-chairwomen of the spring sale, have picked May 27 as the date. There will be rummage, food, white elephant and plant sales. Lunch will be available and a raffle will be held. Legionnaires will be asked to take part.

Members voted to sell poppies once a year in May. Donna Pike was replaced on the Executive Committee by Pat Tibbetts.

Ruth Jucius is the oldest living past department president, past Eastern Division national vice president and member of Unit 82. Her photo and pins will be on display in the hall. Snow is in charge.

Members voted to remember veterans and auxiliary members in nursing homes or shut in at home. Rose Moulton and Beulah Ayer will be in charge.

Marion Millett announced that a Christmas party will be held at the post home on the regular meeting night. The auxiliary will hold a December birthday party at the Western Maine Veterans Home. Marjy Sessions will purchase gifts for those having a birthday in December.

Members voted the following donations: $25, Salvation Army; $35, Long Creek Youth Center; $50, Christmas for Teens; $25, Western Maine Veterans Home Caring Tree; $500, post to help with cost of oil.

November is the American Legion Auxiliary’s 85th birthday month. The Legion served a New England boiled dinner with birthday cake and ice cream. Arnold Pendexter and Ernest Clifford were in charge, with Ralph Moulton, Dave Tilley and Commander Randy Henley helping.
