FARMINGTON – Wilbur came to the Franklin County Animal Shelter as a stray and, although he is a black lab/chow chow mix, staff jokingly refers to him as the “pot-bellied pig” because that is what he looks like.

Wilbur is a big boy (weight, not height) tipping the scales at 120 pounds. Despite his size, he is a sweet-natured and affectionate dog whose only draw back is that he can be a little on the noisy side if he wants something.

Wilbur is being treated for yeasty skin and ears, which seems to be clearing up, so it should not be a re-occurring problem. Due to his weight, Wilbur was tested for a thyroid condition and passed with flying colors.

Wilbur seems to do well with other dogs and kids, but he cannot go to a home with cats. He needs to find a family to love him and help him lose a little of that excess weight.

The shelter will have a winter carnival sometime in December.

Plans are still in the works, but there will be sleigh rides, hot cocoa and a snow sculpture contest.

New dogs include a female Chihuahua brought in from Jay; neutered male yellow lab/shep/husky brought in from Farmington; neutered male reddish brown pit bull with collar brought in from Farmington; and a female black lab with collar brought in from Phillips.
