Free screenings

ANDOVER – The Cardiovascular Health Improvement Program will provide free screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure and a heart health risk assessment from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Andover Town Hall.

It will take approximately 30 minutes. A sign-up sheet is available. For more information, contact Pam Pace at 392-2390.

Summerfest

PERU – A recap Summerfest meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Peru School. The committee would like to recap this year’s event and search for interested individuals willing to take on chairing the event in future years.

Chicken supper

RUMFORD – The Rumford United Methodist Church will serve a chicken pie supper from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.

Chairwoman Dot Wing said the pie will be made from the same recipe that has been used by the church women for nearly 50 years. It is a tradition that goes back to the days of Gladys McFawn and June Nisbet.

The supper will be held in Fellowship Hall and includes “all the fixings” plus a special dessert. The cost will be $7 for adults and $3 for those under 10. For more information, call 364-3552.

Networking

RUMFORD – A Community Networking meeting, sponsored by the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition, is scheduled for noon Thursday, Oct. 27, in the Community Room at Scrapper’s Domaine, Canal Street. Bring a lunch.

Kathleen Beauregard, public communications coordinator of Western Mountains Alliance, will share updates. The alliance strives to improve the quality of life and to strengthen the regional identity of the western mountains region of Maine, while honoring rural values and the environment and supporting sustainable community development.

There will also be updates on other local organization community activities, including programs of the Healthy Communities. The meeting is open to the public. For more information, contact the Healthy Communities at 364-7408.

Fund-raiser

MEXICO – “Have Yourself a Literary Christmas” is the theme for a holiday fund-raiser to benefit the Mexico Public Library. Five titles by Maine authors are available for sale through Nov. 15 at a 20 percent discount.

The books are “Any Bitter Thing” by Monica Wood, “Recipes from a Very Small Island” by Linda and Martha Greenlaw, “Gardens Maine Style” by Rebecca Sawyer-Fay and Lynn Karlin, “Eleven Seconds” by Travis Roy and E.M. Swift, and a children’s book, “The Sea Chest” by Toni Buzzeo.
