INDUSTRY – The Clearwater Lake Improvement Association and the Farmington Rotary Club have joined forces to raise money for Hurricane Katrina Relief by collaborating on a public supper.

The meal will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Industry Town Hall on Route 43. The cost is $5 and money will also be raised by a silent auction of donated items, including services, gift certificates and antiques, and there will be a 50-50 raffle.

The goal is to raise as much money as possible for use by the victims. More than $1,000 has already been received from lake association members.

The Rotary Club raised $700 from member donations, which was sent to a Rotary Club in southern Louisiana to directly aid hurricane survivors. All donations will be accounted for under the Rotary International guidelines and will be sent to a local club in the area affected where 100 percent of the money is used solely in relief efforts.

“I was so struck by the terrible suffering left by the hurricanes and felt I wanted to do something,” said Lynn Werner, member for the Clearwater Lake Improvement Association. “The association has many civid-minded and generous members, including Rotary members, and we decided to join forces.”

The community is asked to help with the event by preparing or bringing something for the meal and donating something of value to the auction. To contribute or for more information, call Janice Maxham, 778-5315, or Lynn Werner, 778-9477.

All donations are tax deductible. Checks may be made payable to the Clearwater Lake Improvement Association or Farmington Rotary with the notation in the memo field, “hurricane relief,” and sent to Janice Maxham, P.O. Box 432, Farmington, ME 04938.
