Society program

FRYEBURG – The Fryeburg Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the American Legion Hall on Bradley Street.

The program is a rescheduled event. “The History of Celtic Instruments” will be presented and performed by Stow resident and local musician, Davey Armstrong. Refreshments will be served. For information, contact Director Nancy Ray at 935-4192 or 935-8076.

Children’s stories

PARIS – Story time at Paris Public Library in South Paris is offered every weekday morning at 10:30. Preschool children are invited to listen to stories and participate in a craft activity. On special occasions there may be music and games as well. Joan Parker, children’s librarian, presents public story times on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Ann McDonald will present a story and craft activity on Monday and Thursday mornings.

Joan Parker will begin the annual after-school program for Fox School students at 3:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required for this program. A Halloween party for preschool and school-age children wil be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. The festivities will include a costume contest, stories, games and refreshments.

Library closed

DIXFIELD – Ludden Memorial Library will be closed Tuesday, Oct. 11, and Thursday, Oct. 20, so the staff can begin changing over to library automation.

Class luncheon

MEXICO – The class of 1955 of Mexico High School will hold its monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Dick’s Restaurant. For more information contact Doris at 562-8392.

Craft club

WEST PARIS – The Agnes L. Gray School students have formed a craft club and are making items to sell during the parent-teacher conferences to help victims of Hurricane Katrina in the Biloxi, Miss., School District. There will also be a bottle drive to help this cause.

New books received at the school library include “Mudball” by Mike Tavares, “The Story of Roberto Clemente of the Pittsburg Pirates” by Jonah Winter, “The Legend of the Curse of the Bambino” by Dan Shaughnessy, “The Secrets of a Civil War Submarine” by Sally M. Walker, and two new Star Wars books “Star Pilot” and “Galactic Crisis.”
