RUMFORD – Rumford Hospital’s Emergency Department will move at the end of the month into the space newly expanded and renovated to become Day Surgery.
Meanwhile, the Day Surgery Department will remain in its temporary home on the third floor.
“This will probably be the busiest and most confusing month during construction,” said Rumford Hospital CEO John Welsh.
The move means that the exterior walls of the old Emergency Department can be torn down to open the space up to the newly built space facing Franklin Street.
The Emergency and Day Surgery departments are expected to be in their new, expanded spaces by sometime in the late fall.
The rear hospital entrance that faces Swift River Health Care will continue to serve as the main and emergency entrance.
During the day a hospital employee is stationed at that door to assist patients and visitors in finding their way around.
Color-coded tape has also been applied to floors to help people navigate.
Red tape, for instance, marks the way to the lab.
