FARMINGTON – This medium-haired torti cat came to the shelter with her mother and siblings when she was a tiny baby in June of 2004 and has grown up here.
Now little “Flick” is over a year old and a staff favorite. Flick holds a place in hearts of the staff, not just because she has such a loving personality, but because she has had it pretty tough lately and, despite it all, still continues to be a wonderful cat.
A little over a month ago, shelter employees arrived at work to find Flick with her back leg caught in the bars of her cage door. They aren’t sure how she got it there, but the damage was pretty severe.
She was placed in a cast for a few weeks and was forced to stay in her cage during the day while the other cats were out and about.
When her cast came off, there was no improvement, and vets decided that amputating the leg would be best. The surgery went well and her stitches just came out the other day.
Now Flick plays with the other cats again, and she has adjusted well to having three legs. She still runs and plays with the other cats, and when she has had enough, she will curl up with a friend and take a nap.
Staff said they are inspired by Flick’s quick recovery, her up-beat attitude and the affection she continues to show toward people and her feline friends. Flick would benefit from going to a home with other cats that will enjoy her company.
Flick will be one of the many cats celebrating a one-year anniversary from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, in the Meeting House Park.
New dogs at the shelter include a male beagle brought in from South Paris; black and white puppy from Farmington; male brindle mix from Mexico; female rust and white from Wilton with collar; and female cream/tan colored pup brought with collar.
