LEWISTON – The Longley-Dionne Post 9150, Veterans of Foreign Wars, assisted in the Flag Day ceremony at the Longley Elementary School. Veteran members from the Post 31, Franco-American War Veterans Inc., and Post 22, American Legion, both of Lewiston, and the Central Maine Marine Corps League also assisted in the program.
The program opened with an introduction and meaning of Flag Day given by Principal Thomas Hood. The Pledge of Allegiance was cited by the assembly.
Carlos Baez, student, read an essay, “What the Flag Means to Me.” Also reading his essay on the same topic was Bashir Hussein. Rebecka Vines told “What it Means to Live in the United States.”
Prizes were awarded to the students by Quartermaster Armand Bussiere, Post 9150. The singing of “God Bless America” by the assembly, led by Maurice Marquis, past commandant, Central Maine Marine Corps League, closed the program.
