LEWISTON – Advocates for Children announces August activities.
The Play Group meets at 10 a.m. Mondays. It is for moms and dads with children age 5 or younger, to play and share experiences, at Advocates for Children, 57 Birch St., Suite 204. It is free.
A new Open Play Time is being held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays at the Parent Resource Center, located at Advocates for Children. Participants can play with other parents and kids. Unlike other play groups, this one will not be facilitated by a staff person. There will be open, unstructured play time. It is free.
Cookies and Crafts takes place at 10 a.m. Fridays. The schedule for the rest of the month is: Aug. 12, apple people; Aug. 19, flower crown; Aug. 26, handprint paper flower.
Several workshops will also be offered.
Parenting 201: Keeping Peace at Home will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Advocates for Children.
Parents will learn how to create a more peaceful and harmonious family life; understand why conflict occurs; and how to prevent it. It is free and registration is required. To register, call 783-3990.
Kids First: Parenting Through Separation and Divorce will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 13 and Sept. 10.
The four-hour program is for parents who are in the process of separation or divorce who wish to lessen the negative impact experienced by their children. To register, call 783-3990. Fee is $45, and scholarships are available.
A picnic in the park will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, in Kennedy Park. Sandwiches and drinks will be supplied. It is free, and registration is required. To register, call 783-3990.
