Society picnic

MINOT – The Minot Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the West Auburn School. Everyone is invited to bring a picnic lunch, with dessert provided by the committee.

June Spear will discuss how the old one-room school was rescued and kept in its natural state. Donna Berry will be the “teacher” for the evening and members of the society will be the “students.” The public is invited to attend.

Special speaker

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Ridge One-Room School. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Special guest speaker will be Marilyn Curtis, who will discuss the history of one-room schools. Curtis is a sixth-grade teacher at Lisbon Community School in Lisbon and has held many programs at the Ridge School with her former students. The public is welcome to the free program. Bring a bag lunch or snack.

Breastfeeding

AUBURN – Expectant women and breastfeeding mothers are invited to a La Leche League meeting at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are always welcome.

Discussion will be on “Breastfeeding, the Mother-Baby Relationship and the Weaning Process.” All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion. For more information or breastfeeding help, call the La Leche League leader at 782-6645.

Vacation school

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Falls Church of the Nazarene’s Vacation Bible School will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, Aug. 15 to 19, at 184 Main St. This year’s theme is “J-Force: Discovering the Ultimate Truth!” There will be games, arts and crafts, songs, Bible stories and snacks.

Everything is free, including a family night and barbecue to be held on Aug. 19. Those interested can call the church at 353-2572.

Input sought

LITCHFIELD – The Litchfield Senior Housing Committee, a subcommittee of the Senior Advisory Committee, is asking for input in the future of senior housing in town.

Those 60 or older and retired are asked to call one of the following committee members any day between 5 and 8 p.m. before Sept. 20: Judy Bourget, 268-4341; Barbara Clements, 754-4203; Pat Soboleski, 268-4237; Dick Turcotte, 268-4418; Mel Cole, 582-7933.

Members need to hear ideas, concerns and suggestions about options for senior housing in the community.

Meservier reunion

AUBURN – The Meservier family reunion will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Tot Lot off Route 4.

Those attending should bring their own food, drinks, chairs and a craft for a raffle. There will be games and prizes for the kids and music.

All Meservier relatives are invited.
