RUMFORD – Summer at the Rumford Public Library is a busy time, especially in the Children’s Room. The past two weeks of Summer Fest and the “Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds” reading program have brought many young folks to the library to pick up a new supply of reading material and to attend the afternoon events.
The third week began July 18, with Almodarr’s Grand Illusion, featuring the magic of Almodarr and Angelique Steelgrave.
Lynn Frost, teacher at Rumford Elementary School, and Friends will be at the library on Tuesday, when participants will make “Memory Frames.” Bring in a photo and make a frame.
“Love Those Dragons!” will be the program for Wednesday, July 20. Meroby School media specialist Barbara Hammond will offer some stories and activities about dragons.
Thursday, July 21, will be “Fun Day.” This is the day when many volunteers work together to create a fun-filled time for the youngsters. Children can take part in games, have their faces painted and watch as a balloon animal is being made just for them, while munching on cotton candy or popcorn.
Sue Bousquet and Deb Dolloff will be special guests at Friday’s noontime Picnic in the Park. The Peru Elementary School teachers have been presenting Summer Fest programs for several years, combining their talents to offer a picnic experience. This year they will have a “Pajama Picnic,” so participants should wear PJs and bring a favorite sleep “buddy,” a lunch and a picnic blanket. It will be held rain or shine.
Area children and their friends are invited to the Summer Fest events, which are free.
With the exception of the Friday noontime picnic in the park, all programs are at 3 p.m. and last approximately an hour. Parents are welcome at all the programs and are encouraged to attend with younger children.
There is still time to participate in the summer reading program, which continues through July 23.
Children interested can get further information about the program and the reading incentives by picking up the reading log in the Children’s Room.
