BETHEL – The Androscoggin River Watershed Council is celebrating this year’s 10th anniversary of its Source to the Sea Canoe Trek with The Concert for the Androscoggin. The concert will feature Maine performers to benefit the Trek. It will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 10, at Bethel Outdoor Adventure and Campground next to the Androscoggin River bridge. Tickets are $15. Barbecue and refreshments will be available.

Kicking off the concert will be local favorites, Jewel Clark and Donnie Katlin. Jewel and Donnie enjoy combining their talents as a duo, performing traditional country, folk, standards and original music. Jewel will also be yodeling, a skill she learned from her father, Country Music Hall of Famer, Yodelin’ Slim Clark, who was a pioneer in Maine country music.

Next on the bill are Broface, an improvisational power trio playing original instrumental music. Their improvised jams get their footing in the premise that music is a language. Guitarist Pat Malia, along with Jason Rowland on drums and Ted St. Pierre on bass are fluent in musical dialects. Spontaneous interplay between the musicians creates music “in-the-moment” that is fun for both the performers and the audience.

Rounding off the evening will be the Denny Breau Trio, who will carry the audience along with them on a musical journey as they perform an eclectic mix ranging from country to blues to bluegrass and everything in between. Musical boundaries disappear as Denny Breau on guitar, Jim McLaughlin on keyboard and accordion, and Tom Zicarelli on tenor and soprano saxophones take their highly improvisational music to wherever the joy and spirit of the moment leads them. Award-winning guitarist and singer-songwriter, Denny was inducted into the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame in May 2004, where he joins his parents, Maine’s Hal Lone Pine and Betty Cody.

The Androscoggin River Watershed Council is a nonprofit organization based in both Maine and New Hampshire, dedicated to protecting the natural and historic heritage of the 3,500 square mile Androscoggin watershed. The council works closely with communities, businesses and citizens on a variety of projects to protect this diverse landscape. Every July, the council puts on the Source to the Sea Canoe and Kayak Trek, designed to foster a sense of stewardship for this 170 mile river. The watershed also conducts educational workshops, conferences, and field trips through its new Androscoggin Watershed Institute.
