Seniors to meet

MONMOUTH – The Golden Years Club will meet Wednesday, May 4, at the Packard Activity Center, United Church basement, beginning with a potluck luncheon. All senior citizens are welcome.

An originally announced program on China will not be presented because of a family emergency.

Following election of officers, the group will hear and see a short recitation of “The Cremation of Sam McGee” as recorded at author Robert Service’s cabin in Dawson City, Yukon Territory, Canada.

Sawyer program

GREENE – Turkey Hollow’s Denny Breau and Dave Rowe will appear at the Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Foundation for shows at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 5, and 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, May 6.

Breau is an award-winning guitarist, singer and songwriter, who was inducted into the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame last year.

Rowe is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and flat-picking guitar player.

WALES – Lakeside Chapter 60, OES, will honor the conductress, associate conductress and chaplain at a 7:30 p.m. meeting Tuesday, May 10, at the Wales Grange/Masonic Hall, 322 Centre Road.

All members and visiting members are invited. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.

Food for thought

LEWISTON – The Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon program at USM/Lewiston-Auburn on Friday, May 13, will feature a timely presentation on “Discovering Daffodils” by Webster Harrison.

A retired Bates College faculty/staff member, Harrison’s garden in Auburn contains more than a hundred daffodil varieties and thousands of bulbs. As part of his program, he will display examples of the perennial.

The program will be held in the function room at USM/Lewiston-Auburn beginning at noon. The cost, which includes lunch, is $5 with advance reservation, or $7 at the door. Door opens at 11:30 a.m. and reservations may be made at 753-6510 or online at www.usm.maine.edu/lac by Thursday, May 12.

Bridge play

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on April 26 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; second, Fred Letourneau and Martine Begert; third, Patricia Quinn and Laurie Letourneau; fourth, Leslie Buzzell and Nancy Lindgren. Winners in Flight B were: first, Claire Lyons and Maude Abbott; second, Doug and Betty Sise.

Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the center. A partner is guaranteed.

The club also met on April 27 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners were: first, David Lock and Martine Begert; second, Luke Merry and Paul Barber; third, Sherry Hinckley and Lucille Theriault.
