PORTLAND – C. Richard (Dick) Hall of East Dixfield received the President’s Award at the annual State Fair convention in January. June Hammond, president of the Maine Fair Association, presented the award to Hall.

He received the award for going the extra mile and his support to improve the state fairs.

Hall has served as an officer and director of the Maine Agricultural Association of Fairs for the past 14 years. For the last six he has been a fair evaluator, traveling all over the state. He has attended many legislative hearings, often testifying for bills.

Hall is past chairman and longtime member of the Pulling Events Committee, and he has been involved with training for licensing of pulling superintendents. He has been involved with establishing pulling rules at the state level.

Hall has led many discussion groups in an effort to improve relations in the pulling industry. For the past 12 years, he has been pulling superintendent at Fryeburg Fair.

Hall has been involved with Farmington Fair since he was a child, participating in 4-H, open dairy and oxen shows and steer pulling. He helped his grandfather in the pulling ring and took over as pulling superintendent upon his death.

Hall has held many positions, including trustee and pulling superintendent and was instrumental in developing the agricultural museum at Farmington Fair.
